Around 1970, some of the push-along 000 range was re-introduced in N gauge, with a track gauge that was marginally larger. N gauge is scaled at 1∶152, which results in a track gauge of 9.42 mm between the rails, as opposed to the smaller 9mm for 000.
The N gauge track was molded plastic instead of metal, still connecting via lugs. The curves were wider radius than the 000, a short fall of the 000 version curved track.
There was a smaller range of rolling stock, using the same 000 mold castings but finished in different colour schemes to the 000 stock. They also had hook and eye couplings, used in most model railway coupling solutions.

The locomotives reused were the Small Tank Loco, a US Baldwin steam locomotive and an American Transcontinental Diesel. The latter with a different casting to the 000 version, having a separate plastic roof.
The Small Tank Loco appeared in a light green livery. The Baldwin steam locomotive in black. The American Transcontinental Diesel was either light green, red or yellow, with grey roof. The light green version had a stencilled British Railways logo and number.
For the remainder of the rolling stock, there were other colour differences, along with some advancements, such as the the BR Main Line Coach having a Perspex window slotted inside and more stencilled detail on the outside.
