American Transcontinental Diesel

American Transcontinental Diesels

This model locomotive was constructed of a body mounted on two bogies. The body was diecast in the white metal alloy zamak. The bogies and wheels were diecast in a steel alloy. The wheels were held in place by crimped lugs.

Each bogie had two pairs of flanged wheels. The front bogie had a cow catcher whilst the rear bogie had a coupling, either a towing pin or a towing slot.

Detail on the locomotive body included exhaust funnel, cooling extractor fans, ventilation grills, cab doors, steps, hand rails and battery casing.

Detail on the bogies included the side frame, housing the journal boxes for each pair of wheels, traction motors, suspension and brake parts.

The livery was silver with 3 red stripes of lining on the sides. These also came in yellow or green, with a grey roof.

All painting was done prior to assembly. Assembly required fixing the bogies to the body. This was achieved by posts at each end of the body running through the centre of the bogie. The ends of the posts were then peened, to keep the bogies on.

The body had ‘LONE STAR LOCOS’ and ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’ cast in high relief on the inside.
